NORTHERN NATIONAL PARKS
August 24 – 31, 2012   •   8 Days / 7 Nights / 11 Meals
Highlights include:
Salt Lake City / Jackson Hole / Oregon Trail Museum / Yellowstone National Park
Old Faithful / Grand Teton National Park

DAY 1: Arrive in Salt Lake City, Utah (“City of the Saints”) where you will enjoy a two-night stay. Embraced by the massive Wasatch and Oquirrh mountains, Salt Lake holds all the attractions of a big city along with the scenic splendor of the Wild West. Dinner is included this evening.

DAY 2: Begin the day with a comprehensive tour of Salt Lake City, including the state capitol building, the charming residential district, and the Great Salt Lake, for which the city is named. The remainder of the day is at leisure. Perhaps you will explore Temple Square, one of Utah’s most visited attractions. A beautifully landscaped 10-acre square in the heart of downtown, Temple Square is where you’ll find the impressive 6-inspired granite Salt Lake Temple and the domed Tabernacle, home of the famous Mormon Tabernacle Choir and Tabernacle organ. Tonight enjoy a night out on the town on your own at one of the fantastic restaurants, bars or cafes that Salt Lake City offers. Breakfast is included today.

DAY 3: Travel north into the rugged beauty of Wyoming to the cowboy town of Jackson, your home for the next four nights. En route, stop at the Oregon Trail Museum in Montpelier, Idaho and learn about the history of the area and the explorers who lived here. Then, arrive in Jackson, often referred to as the “Crown Jewel” of the Northern Rockies. This stunningly beautiful town has been the setting for many of our favorite American western movies…”Big Trail” starring John Wayne, “Shane” with Alan Ladd and “The Mountain Men” headlined by Charlton Heston. Breakfast and dinner are included today.

DAY 4: A delightful day of sightseeing awaits you as you visit the incomparable Yellowstone National Park. The first and oldest national park in the world, Yellowstone sprawls across 3,470 square miles and touches three western states. It is famous for its geysers, hot springs and incredible wildlife including large, free-ranging herds of buffalo. Upon arrival, take a scenic drive to observe the park’s unspoiled, natural splendor. Of course, you couldn’t visit Yellowstone without seeing its most famous attraction: Old Faithful. Watch in amazement as this predictable geyser erupts, sending a fountain of steam more than 60 feet in the air! It’s sure to be a sight you’ll never forget. Breakfast is included today.

DAY 5: The day is yours to explore Jackson Hole. Some optional activities include shopping, canoeing, hiking and river rafting. Tonight enjoy a fun-filled dinner and real Cowboy entertainment at the Bar J Chuckwagon. Breakfast and dinner are included today.

DAY 6: En route to the Grand Tetons you will visit the National Museum of Wildlife Art. A docent brings the paintings, sculptures and photography to life as you listen to the fascinating history and stories behind these “must-see” exhibits. Then it’s on to the awe-inspiring Teton mountain range. Grand Teton National Park features the youngest peaks in the Rockies yet it contains some of North America’s oldest rock formations. Approximately twelve Teton peaks rise about 12,000 feet and support a dozen mountain glaciers. As impressive as they are, none can compare to the Grand Teton, which reaches a staggering 13,770 feet as it towers more than a mile above the valley of Jackson Hole. Take in the beauty of this majestic Alpine landscape. Breakfast is included today.

DAY 7: Travel through beautiful scenery while en route to Idaho. Stop in the small town of Blackfoot to visit the Idaho Potato Museum. Here in “The Potato Capital of the World” you will learn about the history, agriculture and importance of the spectacular spud. This afternoon, arrive in Pocatello and explore what it was like to travel the Oregon Trail, a significant migration route used by pioneers heading west to settle new territory. Visit the Fort Hall Replica to learn about life at the fort during the 19th century. An interesting visit is made to the Pocatello Zoo which features a variety of North American wildlife in a natural setting. This will give you the opportunity to experience the wildlife that calls Wyoming and Idaho home. Tonight enjoy a farewell dinner and learn a couple of country-western dances at a favorite local restaurant. Breakfast and dinner are included today.

DAY 8: Breakfast is included this morning before we depart for home.
